Head of Resource Assessment

 

Who we are 

The Head of Resource Assessment leads all aspects of the Company's meteorological work for wind and solar project development and execution in North America. The position is directly responsible for on-site resource measurement campaign design and execution, wind array design, micro-siting, site suitability analysis, power curve design/testing, and energy assessments.  Additionally, the position manages resource assessment analysts and the company's in-house wind and solar resource instrumentation field services team.  The position is expected to contribute to creating scientific advancements in the field through participation in industry working groups and research.

 

Some examples of your activity 

  • Management of a team of resource assessment analysts. 
  • Management of company’s instrumentation field services team.  
  • Oversee all aspects of energy estimation for wind and solar projects. 
  • Oversee wind on-site data collection, quality assurance and quality control. 
  • Oversee and directly contribute to the siting of wind turbine locations from early conceptual to final construction-ready stage, including full array design sensitive to site constraints such as sound and shadow flicker. 
  • Site meteorological tower and remote sensor installation locations.  
  • Perform full investment-quality energy assessments. 
  • Direct third party consultants for finance-quality energy assessments. 
  • Design and manage the campaign for Power Curve Measurement tests.  
  • Manage technical communications with OEMs to provide and align documentation for Site Suitability and site-specific power curves. 
  • Alignment and verification of the climatic conditions stated in the site suitability.  
  • Advise technical negotiations with OEMs for Turbine Supply Agreements. 
  • Lead technical due diligence in areas of expertise with consultants, investors, and financiers. 
  • Support project development activities as an expert in permitting hearings and other public-facing meetings. 
  • Maintain awareness of industry-leading methods and practices. 
  • Conduct research & development in the field of resource assessment. 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure all projects maximize value. 
  • Exhibit and set a culture of collaboration, mentorship, and enjoyment. 

 

What will you learn? 

  • Good understanding of software applications development process and project management. 
  • Demonstrated experience to carry out full wind yield assessments with the latest procedures. 
  • Ability to communicate technical or meteorological concepts effectively to a broad spectrum of technical and non-technical internal audiences, and to document them in concrete and understandable terms.  
  • Excellent skills in communicating scientific work clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 
  • Sound business perspective, manages to the bottom line, solid business acumen. 
  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to effectively support and work well with people from different disciplines. 
  • Adaptability and flexibility to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and change. 
  • Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meet deadlines. 
  • Ability to balance technical diligence with commercial reality. 

Who are we looking for? 

  • PhD in Meteorological/Atmospheric Science or Engineering. 
  • 10+ years of directly related wind industry experience.   
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a managerial position. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of meteorology, including operational applications, technologies and forecasting. 
  • Experience with modelling, GIS, image processing and interpretation. 
  • Experience in Site suitability and wind turbine technology. 
  • Extensive experience procuring and manipulating meteorological or other geospatial datasets, in formats including GRIB, netCDF, Binary, HDF5. 
  • Programming experience in the following: Python (preferred), UNIX shell scripting, FORTRAN, or MATLAB. 
  • CFD modeling an asset.

What Enel North America Offers You:

The hiring range for this position is $169,000 - $232,000 a year. For remote positions, this is based on a national average base pay for this role. For positions in California this range will be specific to the location in California. The actual range may vary based on the geographic location of the chosen candidate. For all positions, the base pay actually offered will take into account various factors, including internal equity and job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
