What you will do:

As a Design-to-Cost Engineer in the Manufacturing, Operations & Services field, you will be responsible for all activities listed below.

  • In collaboration Technology Development, Procurement and other Manufacturing units, to analyze and design product/process cost reduction strategies;
  • In collaboration with Technology Development, Procurement and other Manufacturing units to make target cost estimations from the early stages of the design of Gridspertise devices, from which a draft BOM (Bill-Of-Materials) and assembly flow can be derived. During the development phase of the project, the Design-to-Cost Engineer will continue to work with the design and engineering functions to push for the most cost-efficient implementation of features;
  • After launching the device in mass-production, to continue to update and evolve its models according to the actual sales volume, to assess the business case for product modifications (like new features or Design-to-cost measures) and to support business decisions (in response to changes in factor costs or in the supply base, for example);
  • To monitor constantly components market to individuate alternative solutions ensuring, where possible, updated multiple sources lists at the best market condition, to reduce BOM cost and meet production and revenue targets;
  • To identify components and materials criticalities, like obsolescence and shortages, early and find alternative sources to avoid resulting production stops and high components procurement costs;
  • To support Procurement unit in monitoring and negotiation with components suppliers to reach the cost targets;
  • To support during the benchmarking activities by quantifying the cost level of competitors’ solutions and feeding these results back into their own design and manufacturing process by quantifying the cost level of competitors’ solutions and feeding these results back into their own design process.

Who you are:

Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Electronic or equivalent:

  • Previous experience in cost engineering teams of companies that manufacture electronic products for industrial/automotive/home appliance markets will represent a plus;
  • Deep knowledge of components and materials used for manufacturing electronic products;
  • Knowledge of main electronic manufacturing processes (pcb assembly, testing, product assembly) will represent a plus;
  • Knowledge of cost engineering tools/methodologies (should cost analysis, side-by-side comparison, identification of cost drivers, etc);
  • Experience in electronic design will represent a plus;
  • Fluent in English. Knowledge of Portuguese and/or Spanish will represent a plus.
