The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, IT/OT Central Systems the Lead IT/OT Data applications is responsible for the development, maintenance and improvements of the IT/OT applications supporting operational data process not related to control systems. The role is to manage the applications supporting the following functions:

  • Aveva PI data platform: operational data collection and integration 
  • ISO/BA/Market data integrators related to power plant operation (excluding Energy Trading) 
  • Local & Global application integration with operational data platform within the Central system scope 
  • Customers, business partners, Offtaker data feed (historical, batch) 

The Lead OT Data applications have the role of defining the strategic initiatives for applications in scope and directing work from internal and external technical resources. 

In addition, the Lead IT/OT Data applications is a focal point role regarding the execution of processes to comply with the applicable regulation (NERC/NERC CIP) and Enel standard processes, including Cybersecurity. 


What You'll Do at Enel North America:
Responsibilities, include, but not limited to leading the following projects and tasks:

  • Data Architecture ownership as it relates to the integration of SCADA, PI, and related OT applications
  • Ownership of user management including assigned applicative roles and audit processes
  • Ownership of Data Quality issues in relation to downstream applications including Aveva PI
  • Act at the SME for Aveva PI system for Power Generation NA.
  • IT/OT Data application development and testing
  • Integration of IT/OT data applications with external applications.
  • IT/OT Data application maintenance, incidents, requests.
  • IT/OT Data application monitoring and performance analysis,
  • IT/OT Data application version management, software and asset inventory.
  • Define Application standards in coordination with stakeholders.
  • Evolution plan and asset lifecycle for OS, hardware, and software as it pertains to responsible systems
  • Integrate new construction plants into EGPNA IT/OT Data applications.
  • Upgrade, Test, Migration and decommission of systems.

Specific tasks include but not limited to:

  • Configuration, monitoring, maintenance of OSISoft PI system, management of AF data models to meet defined Data Architecture required for business needs and applicative performance. Coordinate and direct work performed by contractors on PI.
  • Development, Testing and Support of applications and interfaces to allow operational data to be consumed by: Enel business applications, Offtaker/customers/investors, Market/ISO connectors, etc. Development responsibilities range from configuration/coding directly for small footprint application up to acting as lead architect for more complex solutions to deploy with supervision of contractors.
  • For outsources development and maintenance activities, the role includes the development of specification/scope of work, supporting the procurement activities, selection of vendors, implementation, commissioning, testing, end-user testing, etc.
  • Ensure prompt and adequate incidents and change management processing in close coordination with the Service Desk. Tasks include hands-on advanced troubleshooting, coordination with software suppliers’ experts, root cause analysis, etc. Write, review and update work incident reports and operation procedures.
  • Analyze & report on IT/OT application activities (incidents, requests, availability, compliance, etc.). Perform detailed problem analysis to prevent reoccurring issues and improve resolution time. Develop and measure KPI to measure the performance and usage of the applications.
  • Develop and follow-up the execution of a specific maintenance plan, procedures and guidelines. 
  • Coordinate work with the team in charge of managing the infrastructure (networking, compute/storage) supporting IT/OT Data applications and the other Digital Hub units (cyber, Central SCADA lead, SCADA, plant systems, etc.). 
  • Provide training to Enel personnel regarding the PI data platform and other IT/OT Data applications. 
  • Ensure that any work on the IT/OT application is performed per Enel standards and external regulation such as NERC and other applicable regulatory requirements. 
  • Ensure proper capitalization of knowledge to IT/OT Data Application 
  • Develop and maintain relationship with process control vendors to keep current with changes in operational control systems and Industry trends participating in seminars and training events as required. 
  • Act as an escalation point as 24/7 call support. 
  • Travel to sites and offices typically up to 10% (domestic and internationally).         


Who You Are
:

  • Good knowledge of power plant or electrical systems operations. 
  • Good knowledge of utility applications (Energy market, metering , etc.) 
  • Experience with industrial communications: Modbus, DNP3, OPC, OSI PI, XML, JSON, etc. 
  • Advanced proficiency with: 
  • IT Tools: SFTP, SSH, etc. 
  • Database: administration, SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, data mining 
  • OS/Infrastructure MS Windows server, Linux, etc. 
  • Coding: Python, C++, Java, WebServices APIs, etc. 
  • Teamwork oriented but also capable to work in autonomy. 
  • Rigorous approach to problem solving, structured testing, troubleshooting, documentation, compliance aspects. 
  • Strong capability to manage contractors 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Project, Excel, use of Excel Macro, Power Point 
  • Ability to be on call or work off hours 
  • Ability to produce and review technical (e.g., troubleshooting guide, incident report) and non-technical documentation (e.g., Change management procedures). 
  • Must be able to clear a 7-year background check. 

Desirable: 

  • Experience in Energy Market protocols and data exchange for the NA market (ERCOT, SPP, PJM, NE-ISO) 
  • Experience with Big Data platforms (e.g. Apache Spark) and Data Pipelining (e.g. Apache Airflow) 
  • Experience with large scale dataset processing, data anomaly detection, missing data, etc. 


What You've Accomplished
:

  • B.S. or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation & Controls or Computer Science
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT/OT development, integration and/or maintenance. Education may count for up to three years of on-the-job experience. 
  • Experience in administering Aveva PI platform for the power/utility industry. 
  • Experience with Active Directory, including Kerberos, SAML, OIDC for user authentication and authorization 
  • Experience with public cloud services including AWS (EC2, S3, IAM, etc)

What Enel North America Offers You: 

The hiring range for this position is $114,700 - $143,300 per year. For remote positions, this is based on a national average base pay for this role. For positions in California this range will be specific to the location in California. The actual range may vary based on the geographic location of the chosen candidate. For all positions, the base pay actually offered will take into account various factors, including internal equity and job-related knowledge, skills and experience.
