Head of Tax – Enel Green Power: Southern Africa

Enel Green Power is seeking a Head of Tax to join its Administration, Finance and Control team, based in Johannesburg.

What you will do:

  • Ensuring overall tax compliance and tax management in business activities. Review of month end tax process to ensure accurate closing process.
  • Review and management of queries arising on tax related balances.
  • Review and approval of monthly, bi-annual and annual returns for submission to revenue authorities.
  • Provide tax support including technical tax support to business in relation to new investments/divestments and existing operations:
  • -     Reviewing and approval of transactions, legal agreements relating to acquisition and disposal of projects, due diligence, development of new activities, new ventures, new investments, reorganisation/restructuring.
  • -     Proactively provide tax advice to Business on any tax issues, identify the risks, participate in identifying solutions and drive the implementation of the solutions and recommendations.
  • Control and liaise with external and internal audit in all areas of taxation. Ensure adequate documentation for tax audits is prepared and kept.
  • Identification and monitoring of tax legislation, highlighting tax legislation changes applicable to business and response to legislative changes.
  • Tax planning support in order to identify any tax optimization or opportunities that allow to benefit from any tax incentives.
  • Tax support in any local or cross- border M&A transactions.
  • Tax analysis on the funding structure of the South Africa country i.e., equity vs intercompany loan vs third- party debt.
  • Ensure overall tax compliance in accordance local and international tax rules (i.e., withholding tax treatment on outbound flows; permanent establishment risk exposure) for efficient and timely filing of returns and timely payment of taxes for all tax types.
  • To manage recovery of VAT refunds from SARS.
  • Monitoring and management of tax audits and correspondence from SARS and responding appropriately to revenue authorities.
  • Review analysis of P&L and tax budgets, forecast and reconciliation of effective tax rates.
  • Manage tax rate and tax cash flow: companies’ tax calculations for each Enel process, e.g., budget, business plan, forecast, preclosing, monthly and annual closings. Analysis of any differences between forecast and actual and between actual and previous year.
  • Manage and co-ordinate tax advisor relationships and engagements including the management of external advisor costs.
  • Assist Group Tax with tax compliance regarding Pillar 2, Country by Country Reporting and CFC rules.
  • Development of internal tax policies with respect to income tax and transfer pricing, in line with the Group’s Internal Tax Control Framework .
  • Coaching of AFC staff on tax related matters

Who you are:

·       CA (SA) with post-graduate qualification in taxation, ideally MCom (Taxation).

What we search in you:

  •  International & Corporate Tax experience (6 to 10 years) in house or from consulting firms
  • Experience in renewable energy (solar, wind & hydro) is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Mature, self-motivated, detail-minded, target oriented and strong problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills; ability to work collaboratively with others to achieve objectives
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Candidate should be organised, focused and detailed in order to be effective with large volumes of work, multiple work streams and high-pressure periods.
  • Candidate should have a solution orientated and “hands-on” approach.
