Solar Technical Project Manager
Description and Requirements
The Technical Project Manager reports to the Head of Technical Services within the O&M Solar Technical Services section. The role is responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of technical and engineering projects across EGP’s renewable energy portfolio, with a primary focus on utility-scale solar PV assets and associated power systems.
The position combines strong project management capability with in-depth technical knowledge of electrical power systems. The incumbent will work across the project lifecycle managing multidisciplinary project activities, coordinate internal and external stakeholders, and ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with EGP standards, grid codes, and statutory requirements.
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of technical projects from initiation through execution, commissioning, and close-out.
- Define project scope, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements in alignment with operational and business objectives.
- Manage project governance, progress tracking, risk management, and reporting in accordance with EGP processes and PMBoK.
- Coordinate internal teams, including O&M, Global support teams, Engineering, HSEQ, Procurement, and Logistics, to ensure integrated delivery.
- Manage EPC contractors, OEMs, consultants, and service providers, ensuring contractual compliance and performance.
- Establish a formal change management process relating to local operations.
- Control scope, cost, and schedule changes through formal change management processes.
- Ensure alignment with EGP’s technical standards, quality standards, governance frameworks, and operational requirements.
- Prepare and present clear technical and project status reports to management and governance forums.
- Draw-up and coordinate technical and commercial feasibility studies, technical packs (including development of technical specifications and pricing schedules) and project schedules for new projects, upgrades, and improvement initiatives.
- Lead the compilation of cost–benefit analyses, financial justifications, and technical option evaluations to support decision-making.
- Coordinate internal inputs (Engineering, O&M, Finance, HSEQ, Procurement) required for feasibility and approval processes.
- Prepare and support submissions for internal governance and board-level approvals in line with EGP requirements, including ensuring readiness for business investment decision-making.
- Develop, submit and coordinate budget requests, CAPEX/OPEX justifications, and supporting documentation for project approval and funding allocation.
- Support senior leadership with technical inputs during investment, budget, and approval forums.
- Support the implementation and mobilisation of new technical, maintenance, and engineering contracts within the O&M Solar Technical Services scope.
- Coordinate technical inputs during contract kick-off, ensuring scope, deliverables, KPIs, and interfaces are clearly defined and understood by all parties.
- Support Procurement and Contract Management teams during the tender adjudication process, including technical clarifications with the contractor/s .
- Ensure contract implementation aligns with EGP technical standards, HSEQ requirements, and operational processes.
- Monitor early-stage contract performance, identify gaps or risks, and support corrective actions where required.
- Ensure all project activities comply with EGP HSEQ policies, procedures, and statutory requirements.
- Promote and enforce a strong safety culture across all project execution activities.
- Participate in technical risk assessments, method statement reviews, and site safety audits.
- Lead technical recovery and remediation projects following major plant failures, incidents, or force majeure events.
• Demonstrated proven track record of end-to-end project delivery experience from feasibility through procurement, execution, and project close-out, including disposal of assets.
• Proficiency in preparing feasibility studies, cost–benefit analyses, and business cases to support investment and board approvals.
• First-hand experience with CAPEX and OPEX budgeting, cost tracking, and financial control during project execution.
· Strong knowledge of Construction & Supply Agreements (e.g. general conditions of contract, FIDIC, etc.)
· Skilled in cash flow, cost-control and budget management.
· Experience implementing and mobilising technical and maintenance contracts, including contractor performance monitoring.
· Experience managing EPC contractors, OEMs, consultants, and service providers in regulated environments.
· Conversant with electrical power systems and utility-scale renewable energy technologies to support technical decision-making.
· Strong coordination of multidisciplinary stakeholders across Engineering, O&M, Finance, Procurement, and HSEQ.
· Experience supporting governance, compliance, and reporting requirements within large organisations.
· Advanced Knowledge MS Office, Outlook, Excel, MS Project and SAP
• 6+ years’ experience in the electrical or renewable energy sector.
• Demonstrated experience managing technical projects in utility-scale solar PV or power generation plants.
• Formal Project Management qualification (PMP or equivalent) will be advantageous.
• Functional knowledge of solar PV plants technology (Inverters, PV modules, etc).
