The position
The role: Senior Manager, Finance / Accounting (Individual Contributor)
Location: Tokyo

Role Summary
The Senior Manager, Finance / Accounting is a senior-level individual contributor role responsible for leading complex accounting and financial activities for the Japan business.
This position does not include direct people management responsibilities, but requires a high degree of autonomy, technical expertise, and ownership over critical financial processes, as well as close partnership with local and regional stakeholders.

Job Description
• Act as the primary subject matter expert for accounting matters in Japan, covering both IFRS and J-GAAP
• Lead end-to-end accounting processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness
• Provide strategic and technical accounting support to the Country Manager, particularly for new contracts, business models, and market opportunities
• Manage treasury activities, including:
o Cash flow forecasting
o FX reconciliation and analysis
• Lead the year-end audit process and coordinate with external auditors
• Prepare and review statutory accounts and related documentation
• Perform monthly review and analysis of:
o Income Statement
o Balance Sheet
o Key financial movements and variances
• Upload monthly results into consolidation tools (e.g. Hyperion) and explain monthly financial movements to regional stakeholders
• Continuously review, enhance, and standardize accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
• Serve as a key point of contact for APAC / Global finance teams on Japan-specific accounting and compliance matters

Preferred experience and background:
• Proven, in-depth technical accounting knowledge, particularly IFRS (strong exposure to IFRS 15 is required)
• Solid understanding of J-GAAP and statutory reporting requirements in Japan
• 7+ years of experience in accounting or finance roles, including senior-level individual contributor responsibilities (experience in a complex global organization strongly preferred)
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage audits, statutory reporting, and complex accounting issues
• Business-level proficiency in both English and Japanese (written and verbal)
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with financial systems and consolidation tools preferred

Preferred Qualifications
• Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field 
• CPA or equivalent professional qualification 
• Background in Big 4 accounting firms or similar professional services environments
• Experience working with multinational stakeholders and regional finance structures
