Descrição e Requisitos

The Solar PV Power Plant Technician is responsible for all preventative and corrective maintenance on the solar plant with tracking system, while making sure all HSEQ procedures are followed. The Technician must ensure maximum availability and performance ratio of the solar plant and draft technical reports on all events. Root cause analysis, identifying and implementing plant optimisation projects under guidance by the Plant Manager. 

What you will do:

• Plan, prepare for, manage and execute activities pertaining to Preventative Maintenance on the solar plant assuring all HSEQ procedures are followed.
• Plan, prepare for, manage and execute activities and execute pertaining to Corrective Maintenance on the solar plant assuring all HSEQ procedures are followed, activities include but are not limited to:
-  Respond to all alarms triggered on the solar plant;
-  Resolve all trips on the solar plant as soon as possible;
-  Attend to all breakdowns, do fault finding/root cause analysis and resolve, fix or replace faulty equipment with minimal energy loss;
-  Diagnose and replace PV panels;
-  Diagnose, test, repair and/or replace cables, cable inter-connections, PV junction/string boxes, connectors and fuses in PV systems;
-  Diagnose, test, repair and/or replace transformers;
-  Diagnose, test repair and/or replace HV yard equipment;
-  Diagnose, test repair and/or replace tracking system; and
-  Diagnose, repair and/or replace switchgear and control gear in PV systems.
• Apply root cause analysis techniques on all major and reoccurring faults;
• Investigate technical failures and prepare formal technical report;
• Generate Work Order (WO) requests for onsite intervention in the provided system (R4P); and
• Enforce HSEQ compliance with contractors.
• Optimise operation and maximize the production of power plant.
• Correctly and timely operating the plant.
• Complying with the parameters defined by the Operation and Maintenance Function related to operation, maintenance, availability, etc.
• Perform technical maintenance activities of the plant with special attention on the conversion units and tracking system.
• Execute maintenance activities assisted by different actors involved in the plant maintenance.
• Comply with Legal, Safety and Environment requirements.
• Rectify, investigate and report regularly and promptly any issues that may arise.
• Link the data detected by the systems (SCADA, control rooms etc.) to the events that occurred in the power plants.
• Monitor the power plants status.
• Assist the Plant Manager on plant optimisation (reliability and future CAPEX projects).
• Perform standby duties.
• Train/mentor interns.
• Interact with Eskom as required.
• Prepare Requests for Quotes as needed.
• Record keeping and management of spare part movements.
• Report significant events to Plant Manager and MTS.
• Any other duties, as assigned by the Plant Manager, in line with the role.

Who you are:

• Red Seal Trade Test – Electrical (Minimum)
• BTech Degree or National diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Previous electrical plant operating authorisation will be an advantage.

What we search for in you:

• At least 3 years of experience in the electrical industry. Strong background in the energy sector and in generation field. Renewable energy experience will be an advantage.
• 5+ years’ Solar Power plant commisioning & fault finding experience advantageous.
• Solar Power plant commissioning & Fault-Finding experience – Advantageous
• Specific knowledge of Power Systems and Maintenance Management Systems, preferably on solar technology.
• Network switch configuration and network troubleshooting expertise – Advantageous
• Familiar with high speed data acquisition systems and digital protection relays.
• A previous experience in Operation & Maintenance of renewable power plants is a nice to have.
• Fluent in English.
