Enel Green Power is seeking a Electrical Balance of Plant (BoP) Technical Support Specialist to join its Operations and Maintenance & Assets Management team, based in Johannesburg, to support Enel Green Power’s O&M activities. The Electrical BoP specialist shall report to the Head of Technical Services in the Solar Technologies department.

What you will do:

·     Ensure compliance with Legal, Health & Safety, Environment and Quality requirements of the EGP.

·     Ensure electrical compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements as well as industry codes and standards.

·     Conform to EGP’s O&M objectives, policies and procedures.

·     Perform oversight of grid connectivity, LV, MV, and HV substation equipment/ apparatus, small power and lighting (SP&L), earthing and lightning, and protection systems.

·     Ensure plant systems integration and interface management with SCADA technology from the solar arrays to the main evacuation substation.

·     Take accountability, manage, and deliver on ad-hoc engineering projects from inception to implementation.

·     Provide technical inputs for the development of the maintenance plan and strategies for the EGP’s electrical equipment, and the related procurement plan, in coordination with Maintenance and Technical Services units.

·     Develop technology strategies, processes and procedures for O&M (predictive, preventive and corrective) electrical equipment.

·     Supervise and inspect on-site tests of predictive and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment and ensure accurate process implementation in conjunction with EGP requirements.

·     Perform technical issues identification and resolution, and plant failure equipment/ component troubleshooting, and root cause analyses.

·     Develop specific troubleshooting process documents for each type of electrical component of the power plants.

·     Conduct statistical monitoring, analysis and reporting of failures of electrical equipment, both in technical and economic terms.

·     Collaborate with all Technical Support Specialists for the preliminary analysis of failures in EGP power plants.

·     Develop effective technical specifications through the coordination of inputs to strategically contest commercial claims and disputes.

·     Deliver quality outputs and deliverables efficiently to meet strict deadlines.

·     Support in drafting tender specifications for framework maintenance agreements including identification of bidders and supporting the bids evaluation process.

·     Provide technical support to the EGP’s Logistics unit to accurately verify and validate spare parts’ compatibility and to analyze failure in replaced materials related to electrical equipment.

·     Effectively communicate and interface with EGP’s Main Control Room providing technical support for electrical infrastructure remote operation.

·     Coordinate the identification and implementation of electrical equipment technical improvements and monitor the effectiveness in collaboration with the Operational Efficiency team.

·     Supervise acceptance testing of new electrical and control system technologies.

·     Support and represent EGP in technical meetings with technicians, manufacturers, certifiers, and Global counterparts.

·     Support HSEQ in the analysis and validation of safety and environmental plans, processes and procedures, with a focus on electrical and control system risk.

·     Perform training for site personnel on electrical systems and equipment troubleshooting and root cause analysis.

·     Knowledge of the South African grid code for renewable power plants.

·     Business progress reporting, technical issues management, and stakeholder engagements are required from time to time.

Who you are:

·     Power generation experience and conversant with power systems.

·     Strong technical knowledge of renewable power plants’ electrical equipment, components and systems (substation, transformer, protection systems, inverters, cables, etc.).

·     Renewable O&M processes.

·     Knowledge of substation SCADA, metering and protection systems, as well as interfacing with system platforms.

·     Conversant with SEL/Schneider/Siemens switchgear.

·     Knowledge of both oil and dry-type power transformers.

·     Knowledge of tariff and power quality meters (Landis+Gyr/ ION).

·     Knowledge of cable reticulation systems (including terminations/joints).

·     Fluent in English, both spoken and written.

·     Availability to Travel

What we search in you:

·     BSc/BEng Electrical Engineering or Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree.

·     At least 5 years of experience in the electrical and/or renewable energy industry.

·     At least 5 years of experience in technical operations and maintenance of electrical equipment (LV/MV/HV).
